Walker Memorial Church was first organized in a one-room house on Jones Street behind Wofford College. The congregation then moved to Cummings Street where they called themselves Mintz Chapel, they renamed to Jones Tabernacle. Unfortunately, this structure was destroyed by a storm, so they had to rebuild their church and decided to rename it Walker Memorial CME Church. The congregation stayed at that current location from 1917-1973. In 1973 they decided to move to their current day location on Wofford Street where it is now called Bunton Institutional CME Church.
